2026/27 TEAM TRYOUTS

Tryouts for the West Virginia Vipers will be held over two days—Tuesday, May 26th and Thursday, May 28th at the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex. We are aiming to field two teams at both the Middle School and High School levels, and Vipers coaches along with independent evaluators will be on the ice to assess each player.

This is a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills and be part of a competitive scholastic hockey program. Homeschool, cyber, and private school students are all eligible to play.

Times: Middle School 7:00-8:00 pm - High School 8:00-9:00pm

Ages

Middle School: Grades 6–8 (Birth Years 2012–2015; 6th graders must be second-year 12U players)

High School: Grades 9–12 (Birth Years 2008–2011)

COST

Tryout cost is $25.00 per player, non-refundable.

SEASON INFORMATION

Tryouts are for the upcoming 2026–2027 Vipers season, which begins on August 26, 2026.

The Middle School team competes in the NVSHL (Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League), and the High School team competes in the CSHL (Capital Scholastic Hockey League).

In addition to league play, teams participate in non-league games, host a Thanksgiving tournament, compete in the West Virginia State Championships, and take part in end-of-season tournaments and Spring League.

TEAM SELECTION & NOTIFICATION

Following tryouts, our evaluators will determine team placements. Players will be notified via email within 5 days of tryouts, so please ensure your contact information—especially your email—is accurate.

Once offers are sent, you will have 24 hours to accept your roster spot. If a response is not received within that time, the spot will be released and offered to another player.

Upon acceptance, you will be provided with the next steps and instructions to complete the registration process.

Q: Who can play?

A: Players in grades 6–12 (6th graders MUST BE second year 12U players) without a school hockey team, including public, private, homeschool, and cyber students.
